If you are considering remodeling your bathroom, no doubt, you have something great in mind already. This article can give you step by step instructions for realizing your vision. Keep reading.
Like any remodeling job, there are five basic steps you must take to create the space you desire: planning; choosing your style; finding and buying the products, appliances and other items you need; removing old appliances and products; installing your new products, appliances, etc.
- Step 1: Planning. This means you make a scaled drawing of the space you are going to remodel and a list of items that will be moved and removed. You also want an excellent sense of electrical wires, supporting walls and plumbing; things that are difficult to remove and may require hiring a professional. When considering your total area, take into account space that can/ will be added by installing cabinets or shelving for storage.
- Step Two: Choosing a style. With a working knowledge of your space, it is time to pick a style that fits your budget, your room, and your lifestyle. At this point you may choose to hire and consult a design company, or, you can look at pictures of remodeled bathrooms online or in magazines. Pick, choose and merge styles that appeal to you. There are no rules except function and budget, so express yourself.
- Step Three: Go Shopping. Now you know exactly what space you have to work with and you know what your knew bathroom is going to look like. You need to shop online, at home remodeling stores, antique stores, and thrift stores to put together your unique design. There is a variety of products out there that fit everyone’s tastes. This can be the most fun part of the project. Happy hunting.
- Step Four: Out with the old. Now your new bathroom is ready to go in, so you must take the old one out. Carefully remove sinks, cabinets, tubs and toilets. If you have little experience with this, it is time to hire a plumber or consult a friend with the knowledge you need. Don’t just try to muddle through it or you can end up costing your self much money in damages. Removing flooring or wall paper can be a pain, but take your time and do it right to save yourself trouble when it comes time to install your new floor and wall choices.
- Step Five: In with the new. Lay your floor, install new cabinets and mirrors, get your sink and tub in place… Again, a good time to have someone on hand with the know-how. This process can be lengthy, if, say, you are laying tile, but remember, the more time and patience you put into it, the better your result. You will be pleased with the work you have done. Your beautiful and uniquely styled bathroom is ready to use. You did it yourself (mostly), now enjoy it!
